THE WABASHA CHAMBER/CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU (CVB) SEEKS A FULL-TIME EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Great opportunity awaits the candidate selected to lead the Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). We are seeking a leader who possesses a high level of enthusiasm, professionalism and integrity; a team player who excels in relationship building and sustaining collaborative partnerships; a savvy marketer who will successfully promote the value and benefits of living in and visiting our lovely, historic river town – home to the National Eagle Center.

As Executive Director, he or she will lead and manage all functions of the Chamber and CVB, including strategic planning, membership expansion and retention, special events coordination, marketing/promotion, and more. Strong leadership, team building, project management, fiscal, and communication skills required. Desirable candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in hospitality, marketing, public relations or related field.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:  Executive Director

Supervised by:  Board of Directors

Employment Status:  40 hours/week, salaried

Salary:  Based on education and experience

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in hospitality, marketing, public relations or related field; experience preferred in tourism, customer service, and/or marketing

Executive Director Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate all functions and activities of the W-K Chamber and CVB
  • Supervise administrative assistant and oversee Visitors Center/Office operations, staffing, and volunteers
  • Lead membership recruitment, retention, and ongoing cultivation and engagement
  • Oversee fiscal management of Chamber/CVB budgets
  • Lead strategic planning/visioning initiatives relating to Chamber/CVB
  • Develop and execute Chamber/CVB marketing plan, including updating and maintaining websites, social media outlets, and travel planner in collaboration with marketing committee
  • Coordinate the writing, execution, and management of related tourism grants
  • Oversee community events/activities with assistance from committees, including Grandpa’s Barn Boutique (Seasonal), Riverboat Days Festival, Grumpy Old Men Festival, Soar with the Eagles, holiday festivities, etc.
  • Organize, prepare and facilitate, in collaboration with board chair, monthly board meetings and annual membership meeting
  • Collaborate with Port Authority, City of Wabasha and other key stakeholders to advance economic development, tourism, membership services and the establishment of a future community center
  • Serve as spokesperson for the Chamber/CVB and, thereby, see that the organization is properly presented to its various publics
  • Other duties as assigned

Located 80 miles southeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Wabasha, Minnesota, with a population of 2800, is a hotspot river town on the Mississippi River rich in history and ambiance. OUR HISTORY AND MISSION

The Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau is an association of local area business people working together to promote business interests in the Wabasha-Kellogg region. Along with an annual Chamber of Commerce budget of $365,000, the Executive Chamber Director manages an additional $70,000 for the CVB. The mission of the Chamber of Commerce & CVB is to promote and improve the business environment, stimulate a vibrant local economy, market tourism and produce a cooperative effort to enhance the overall quality of life in Wabasha and surrounding area. The Chamber/CVB is governed by a single Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director and staff.

With 155 professional memberships and an additional 115 social memberships, the Chamber has community support that is second to none. Local business leaders and residents understand the important role the Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber plays in the area’s economic development. Other assets that the Wabasha-Kellogg area has are:

This community asset will include a new Visitors Center, Chamber offices, banquet hall, and catering kitchen to hold special events and weddings. The revenue generated by the Community Center will go directly to the Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber to help fund annual events and Chamber budgets. In short, the Executive Director of the Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber will be given a prominent role of leadership and influence within the city and be able to put his or her footprint on the greater Wabasha Area.
