Spring 2011
Dear Friends of the Arts,
River Junctions Arts Council would like to give you the opportunity to bring more art, in various forms, to the Wabasha and Kellogg area. In today’s economy, your donations are more important than ever, and you will be pleased to know that 100 per cent of your donations stay in our community. You help provide music and arts opportunities in Wabasha that are comparable to many larger cities. You can be very proud of your Arts Council’s programs.
After a very long winter, we will again Spring Into the Arts. In May, RJAC will host its Membership Drive Concert. It begins at 6:00 p.m. on May 13th at the Eagle’s Nest Coffee House; it’s a little later this year to allow for more of our “snowbirds” to return home. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Local musicians will be performing, and the concert is free with your paid membership!
Other spring and summer events include: an Assemblages ‘Found’ Art Show, a Mother’s Day Scrawl Wall, the W-K High School Art Show, art classes taught by local art professionals, History Days, and the MN Homefront WW II exhibit.
The always popular Meet Me Under the Bridge Summer Concert Series will provide 12 concerts during the months June through August. Concerts are held every Friday at 7:00 p.m. under the bridge in Heritage Park. They are free and fun for all ages. Bring a chair and your friends and enjoy music from Folk Rock, Big Band, Irish, Bluegrass, and much more.
Down By the River Art Gallery, located beneath the Chocolate Escape, continues to feature local and regional artists and their works of artistic expression. The Backdoor Book Club continues to meet monthly to discuss novels. The Writer’s Critique Group brings together writers to share their work in an open forum each month. Prairie Fire Children’s Theater, a week-long theater workshop for kids, will present The Wizard of Oz this August.
New events such as RJAC Movie Club, History Days, and MN Homefront WWII will present additional opportunities. There is so much going on, so check the event insert and www.rjac.org for updates.
RJAC funds its numerous programs through its membership and donations. Without YOU, RJAC would not be able to accomplish its mission to bring art, music, and cultural activities to our community. Please take a moment to fill out the enclosed membership card and return it with your check. The RJAC Board wishes to thank you for your generous support: Sharon Burke, VP; Brian Yenter, Treasurer; Laura Swartout, Secretary; Nicole Borg, Susie Burke, Terry Dennis, Mary Flicek, Aggie Hubbard, Jan Trok, Board Members-at-large.
Sincerely,
Pam Christopherson and Rachel Yenter RJAC Co-Presidents
