An Afternoon with Castlerock Museum’s Founder

On Saturday, November 10th at 2pm, there will be a special program at Castlerock Museum in Alma, Wisconsin with Gary Schlosstein, the museum’s founder. Gary will take visitors on a walk around the museum, sharing stories behind some of the rare and fascinating artifacts in the museum’s collection. He will also point out and discuss many exciting new additions made in the past year. The program will conclude with a Q & A session.

Gary Schlosstein first started collecting when he was ten years with a Civil War musket that he bought at an antique store for three dollars. His passion for ancient and medieval arms and armor began in the early 1980’s, when a friend convinced him to buy several medieval polearms. Over the years, this collection grew, leading Gary to start up the nonprofit that is Castlerock Museum as a permanent place to house and display the collection to the public. The museum officially opened its doors in 2011 and celebrated its seventh anniversary last July.

Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Museum members are FREE. The museum will open at 1:00pm for visitors that would like to look around beforehand. Contact the museum at 608-685-4231 or [email protected] for details. Visit the museum’s Facebook page for more information.

Vote Wabasha as Minnesota Monthly’s ‘Best MN Town’

Minnesota Monthly Announces 10 Finalists in 2018 ‘Best MN Town’ Search

Public Voting Now Open at BestMNTown.com.

Minneapolis (September 17, 2018) — Which town best embodies the “Spirit of Minnesota?” That’s the question Minnesota Monthly seeks to answer. Earlier this summer, hundreds of towns — from small villages to large cities — were contacted with the opportunity to enter the second annual Minnesota Monthly “Best MN Town Search.”

Dozens of towns heeded the call and submitted impassioned entries that included details on the town’s history, geographic and cultural challenges and opportunities, beloved landmarks, diversity, community events and resources, and outstanding citizens, as well as photos and videos.

Now, it is up to the citizens of Minnesota to cast their vote from the Top 10 finalists as chosen by the editorial team of Minnesota Monthly: Eden Prairie, Fergus Falls, Little Falls, New Ulm, Northfield, Roseville, St. Cloud, Wabasha, Waconia, and White Bear Lake.

The public is invited to vote for their favorite town on BestMNTown.com through 5 p.m. on October 12, 2018. Each person will be allowed to vote up to 10 times per day. The public vote will make up 25% of the score for each finalist, with 75% coming from a panel of notable Minnesotans.

The panel includes: Doug Loon, president of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce; Rick Kupchella, Informed Engagement Network; and Kate Roberts, senior exhibitor developer for the Minnesota Historical Society.

The winner and three finalists will be announced in person at Minnesota Monthly’s “Best of Minnesota Party” on December 5, 2018.

The winner of Minnesota Monthly Best MN Town Search will receive a multi-page editorial feature, an advertising campaign valued at more than $50,000, and a party in their town.

For more information on the Best MN Town Search and to vote, visit BestMNTown.com.
