The outdoor festival season kicks off at the end of February with the 20th Annual Grumpy Old Men Festival which is held all over Wabasha. This event features some of the most “Minnesotan” activities you will find in the region including, a hot dish luncheon, minnow races, ice fishing tournament, chili cook off, cribbage tournament, and of course the Grumpy Plunge, which will be celebrating its 5th year. The Grumpy Plunge supports Great River Homes, an organization serving people with developmental disabilities in Wabasha County. Next up in March is the Taste of Wabasha, featuring several local restaurants and live entertainment at the National Eagle Center. In May comes the arrival of the three seasonal boutiques, Grandpa’s Barn, The Attic & The Woodshop. All boutiques run during the 100-mile garage sale the first two weekends in May.
At the end of July comes the much anticipated 35th Annual Riverboat Days Festival, a three- day festival celebrating summer and of course Wabasha. Enjoy live musical entertainment, classic car show, games, food, arts & crafts fair, sports tournaments, 5/10k River Run/Walk and much more! Watermelon Festival in Kellogg, Minn. sneaks up as summer finally comes to an end in September. The Watermelon Festival features a carnival, 3/5K Run/Walk, food, burn-out, live entertainment and more. Information is available on Facebook: “Watermelon Festival.”
Wabasha-Kellogg’s fall colors peak anywhere from late September through mid-October and there is no better time to enjoy outdoor music and activities along the river. Wabasha’s SeptOberfest is a celebration of German heritage and fall in mid-September. SeptOberfest runs through mid-October and features many weekend activities. The three seasonal boutiques are back again, open daily (Grandpa’s Barn, The Attic & The Woodshop).
In December, join us for 100-miles of Christmas. The first Saturday in December is celebrated with holiday activities, a community tree lighting and much more– including a special visit from the man in the red suit.
