With roots in the church and a solid foundation of musical education, Joyann Parker found her authentic voice later in life and created her own blend of roots music that combines soul, R&B, gospel, jazz and traditional blues styles. Parker has been a steadily rising star on the Midwest music scene and now brings her full range of talent as an accomplished singer, pianist, guitarist and songwriter to national and international stages. Joyann’s rootsy, genre-blending sequel, “Out of the Dark,” was released on February 12, 2021 and debuted at #11 on the Billboard Blues Chart and #1 on the NACC Radio chart. Joyann’s new album, “Roots” is planned for a June 3, 2023 release. “A singing, songwriting, guitar-playing, self-producing, self-aware powerhouse, but the driving force is unquestionably her voice — a formidable instrument she wields with soul and taste.” - Bliss Bowen/Pasadena Weekly “Joyann Parker knows her way around a song. She climbs inside it, dwells in it, lives with every note and phrase, delivering performances that seize our emotions and capture the ragged despair and heightened joy of life.” - Henry L. River Junction arts Council in collaboration with the National Eagle Center and the Great River Shakespeare Festival are proud to present “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”. A classic Shakespeare comedy, preformed by six actors, from the Great River Shakespeare Festival. "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" Best friends Valentine and Proteus travel from Verona to Milan to become gentlemen. But the course of growing up never did run smooth. Amidst competitors, clowns, parents, and one unforgettable dog, these young friends—and the tenacious women they love—stumble through romance, betrayal, and reconciliation. At turns silly and profound, Shakespeare’s first comedy asks timeless questions of youth: Who must I become to get what I want in life? Do I stay true to myself or shape myself to the world? Is what I want now what I will want tomorrow? In this nimble 80-minute adaptation, just six actors bring to life Shakespeare’s rollicking comedy about the chaos of becoming yourself. Filled with physical hijinks, clever wordplay, and some of Shakespeare’s most accessible poetry, this production celebrates the spectacular upheaval of falling in love and the exhilarating turbulence of coming of age. Directed by Katie Lupica Wednesday, July 23, 7 p.m. National Eagle Center Amphitheater, Wabasha, MN This performance is free and is sponsored by the River Junctions Arts Council and the National Eagle Center. No ticket is needed, but [...]
